What to expect We’re looking for the future leaders of Retail Banking and Wealth Management. You will need to be forward-thinking, driven and perceptive, open to different ideas and cultures and enjoy being part of a team.

On the graduate programme you’ll complete four rotations, each lasting six months, which will keep you in both customer-facing and specialist head-office environments.

You’ll be the face and voice of HSBC in the customer-facing areas of our operations, understanding the core processes and propositions that drive a great customer experience. You will also be introduced to risk and compliance, which help to protect the interests of our customers. There will be the opportunity to focus on business management or strategic projects, working on initiatives that support change and innovation across Retail Banking and Wealth Management. One of your rotations will be spent gaining people management and leadership experience.

You’ll be able to take part in our sustainability initiatives. Our volunteering programme, for example, could help you to develop new skills, while contributing to the communities in which we work.

As well as your immediate team, we have Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), also known as networks. They are similar to the clubs and societies that you may have had access to at school, college or university. ERGs are voluntary employee-led groups. Our seven core global diversity-themed networks
are: Ability, Balance, Embrace, Faith, Generations, Nurture and Pride. We also have common interest groups that connect employees on a variety of different topics. They are open to all employees.

Learning and development We offer a high-quality learning and development programme. It starts with our global induction event, Global Graduate Discovery, which will take place in London in July 2018 for all graduates joining our global businesses. The three-day interactive event will provide you with an overview of HSBC as well as an opportunity to network with your 2018 global graduate peer group and colleagues in the business.

After Global Graduate Discovery, you will join the Introduction to Retail Banking and Wealth Management event with your global peer group.

During the programme you’ll develop core technical and leadership capabilities. You will work in an open, collaborative environment that values learning. There will also be the opportunity to study for professional qualifications. We are here to support your development but as a forward-thinking, motivated individual it will be up to you to drive it.

You will be assigned a mentor and buddy, who will give you advice and share ideas. You will also draw on the knowledge of experienced colleagues around you. We’ll encourage you to build your network of contacts, which will be invaluable as your HSBC career unfolds.

Career paths On completion of the programme, you’ll move into a people-management role in a branch, contact centre, or in a specialist area of Retail Banking and Wealth Management. Then you will have the opportunity to progress into more senior managerial or leadership roles, with the aim of leading a branch network, contact centre or specialist team. The speed of your progression will depend on your performance and experience in successive roles and the quality of your HSBC networks.

The ideal candidate for this role will:
Have a minimum of a 2.1 honours degree or equivalent (predicted or gained), and 300 UCAS points or equivalent (excluding General Studies)
Be available to undertake the travel required for this role, i.e. you will be required to relocate across the UK based upon placement opportunities, commitment to being nationally mobile in this role is essential
Have consistently achieved objectives set for you and taken action to improve your own performance
Have self-awareness with the confidence to work independently and take responsibility for your own development
Have worked collaboratively with other colleagues, supporting them when possible

In addition to the details listed above, the ideal candidate will be a proactive forward-thinking, ready to challenge the status quo, with strong drive and determination, keen to learn and develop at all times, passionate about customer service skills with a natural ability to build relationships with colleagues and a willingness to deliver on difficult assignments, possess an aptitude for understanding the underlying strategy which underpins the bank direction, be skilled at project management and a keen interest in business development.
